01Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to produce an industry-leading search engine offering, supplying unparalleled speed and relevance in search
02Contribute to Elasticsearch full time, building new search features and fixing intriguing bugs while making the code easier to understand
03Invent or implement new algorithms or data structures as needed
04Work closely with operating system and hardware when required
05Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities of Elasticsearch
06Act as an expert on Elasticsearch search relevance, identifying and driving improvements
07Engage with the global community on issues and pull requests, triaging and handling contributions
08Write idiomatic modern Java code (Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java)

01Professional experience with search or vector databases, including use of HNSW, IVF, or other relevant algorithms and libraries at scale
02Solid core Java skills, familiarity with standard library data structures, concurrency constructs, and lambdas
03Ability to work autonomously and guide projects from inception to completion, handling technical design and cross‑engineer collaboration
04Comfortable giving and receiving feedback on code, approaches, and APIs in a collaborative environment
05Experience collaborating over the internet, especially asynchronously
06Hands‑on experience with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra
07Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning outcomes
08Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and transition between projects, codebases, or teams based on business priorities
09Experience designing, leading, and owning cross‑functional initiatives
10Prior work with Elasticsearch and open‑source projects, familiarity with source control workflows and CI/CD
