• 01Define, lead, and contribute to the development of data-intensive enhancements.
• 02Research the latest features, data structures, and algorithms in the industry to ensure we’re building the right capabilities for our users.
• 03Work directly with partners and product teams to understand their needs and build out a strategic vision for the longer term.
• 04Bring past experience in analytics systems to help build and drive an innovative roadmap for ES|QL and the compute engine.
• 05Act as an authority in several areas of Elasticsearch, answering questions and improving those areas based on your insights.
• 06Provide technical vision and direction for customer/user interfaces, underlying language syntax, and compute infrastructure.
• 07Define, direct, and build the next generation of ES|QL capabilities.
• 08Write idiomatic modern Java (Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java).
• 09Empower individual engineers, conduct code reviews, drive consensus decisions, and pursue incremental improvements.

• 01Experience leading technical projects in the data and enterprise architecture areas.
• 02Proven knowledge in building and running sophisticated technical infrastructures and engineering sound software systems.
• 03Experience mentoring expert engineers, providing technical and professional guidance.
• 04Experience defining a long-term technical vision for an area of a data-intensive application, working across teams and organizations to collaboratively build the technical roadmap.
• 05Hands-on experience with search and analytics APIs such as Splunk SPL, Elasticsearch, Datadog, Dynatrace, and New Relic.
• 06Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs, as well as newer features like lambdas.
• 07Strong desire to optimize and make use of the most efficient data structures and algorithms.
• 08Ability to work with a high level of autonomy, able to tackle projects and guide them from beginning to end, covering both technical design and collaboration with other engineers to develop needed components.
• 09Experience with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra, and understanding of how they work and why they work that way.
• 10Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• 11Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code, while still owning the final outcomes.
• 12Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and seamlessly transition between different projects, codebases, or teams based on business priorities.
• 13Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions and results in a distributed team by leveraging asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
• 14Bonus: Prior experience building things with Elasticsearch and experience in the search and information retrieval space, understanding its constructs and theory.
• 15Bonus: Experience working with open source projects and familiarity with different source control workflows and continuous integration practices.
