Staff Backend Engineer - Databases Tempo | Canada | Remote

- 01Set technical direction on the hardest problems in our roadmap
- 02Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout
- 03Own the architecture of core Tempo components: ingestion, storage, query, and metrics generation
- 04Drive design reviews, make sharp trade-offs on performance, cost, and complexity, and document the “why” for the team
- 05Design APIs for humans and agents
- 06Shape the next generation of Tempo’s interfaces (structured, deterministic, and discoverable)
- 07Drive operational excellence
- 08Own outcomes against concrete SLOs (P99 write latency, incident recurrence, TCO per ingested GB) and push the team toward Zero Ops through automation, parameterized rollouts, and actionable alerts
- 09Partner with Product and sibling teams
- 10Work closely with PMs and with App Observability, Asserts, Drilldown, and Grafana Assistant teams to understand how Tempo gets consumed and to ship what unblocks them
- 11Mentor engineers
- 12Raise the engineering bar through code review, design feedback, pairing on hard problems, and writing that leaves the team smarter than you found it
- 13Participate in on-call for the services you help build, and be a force multiplier in incident response and post-incident learning
- 14Contribute to open source
- 15Engage the community, review external contributions, and help steer the project in the open
Требования
- 015+ years of experience in software engineering
- 02Deep expertise in distributed systems, databases, and observability
- 03Experience with Go, Rust, or similar systems programming languages
- 04Experience with distributed tracing systems
- 05Experience with cloud-native technologies (Kubernetes, cloud providers, etc.)
- 06Experience with open-source development and community engagement
- 07Strong problem-solving and architectural skills
- 08Experience with operational excellence and SLOs
- 09Experience with AI-assisted development and coding assistants
