Senior Software Engineer - Vector Search - Elasticsearch

01Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to produce an industry-leading vector database offering
02Contribute to Elasticsearch full time, building new search features and fixing bugs
03Invent or implement new algorithms and data structures
04Work closely with the operating system and hardware
05Be the expert on how Elasticsearch implements vector similarity
06Improve the vector search area based on questions and instincts
07Work with community members on issues and pull requests, triaging and handling them
08Write idiomatic modern Java

01Implemented novel techniques in vector similarity on a search platform with a large user base or progressed academic research in this field
02Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases, using HNSW, IVF, or other relevant algorithms at scale
03Strong skills in core Java and conversant in its standard library, data structures, concurrency, and features like lambdas
04Work with a high level of autonomy, able to take on and guide projects from beginning to end, covering technical design and collaboration
05Comfortable with collaborative development, giving and receiving feedback on code, approaches, and APIs
06Experience with several data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra and understanding of how they work
07Excellent verbal and written communication skills
08Respectful, empathetic, and trusting in all interactions

01Compensation is in the form of base salary with no variable component
02Typical starting salary range: $128,300 — $203,000 CAD
03Eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program
