Principal Software Engineer - Vector Search - Elasticsearch

- 01Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to produce an industry-leading vector database offering
- 02Contribute to Elasticsearch full time, building new search features and fixing intriguing bugs
- 03Invent new algorithms or data structures, or find and implement existing ones
- 04Work closely with the operating system and hardware when necessary
- 05Collaborate with a globally distributed team of experienced engineers focused on vector search capabilities
- 06Become an expert on how Elasticsearch implements vector similarity and support others with questions
- 07Improve vector similarity functionality based on insights and instincts
- 08Engage with community members worldwide on issues and pull requests, triaging and resolving them
- 09Write idiomatic modern Java code (Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java)
Требования
- 01Implemented novel techniques in vector similarity on a search platform with a large user base or progressed academic research in vector similarity information retrieval
- 02Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases
- 03Used HNSW, IVF, or other relevant algorithms and libraries on search platforms at scale
- 04Strong skills in core Java and knowledge of standard library data structures and concurrency constructs
- 05Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and guide projects from start to finish
- 06Comfortable with collaborative development, including giving and receiving feedback on code and approaches
- 07Experience with several data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra
- 08Excellent verbal and written communication skills for remote collaboration
- 09Respectful, empathetic, and trusting approach to interactions

- 01Base salary compensation (no variable component)
- 02Typical starting salary range: $154,000 — $243,600 CAD
- 03Eligible for Elastic's stock program
