Responsibilities
- 01Develop and maintain the Toast Reporting Experience (T-REX) reporting and analytics layer
- 02Build modern reporting stack, shared UI components, and OpenSearch-backed data pipelines
- 03Ship features that sit on top of the reporting foundation
- 04Work on AI-native integrations and natural language interfaces
- 05Expand the data layer powering intelligent experiences across Toast
- 06Solve hands-on engineering problems at the intersection of product, data, and AI
- 07Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver platform capabilities
- 08Design and implement APIs and frameworks used by other teams
- 09Ensure code quality and testing standards
- 10Use AI tooling as a genuine part of the workflow
- 11Focus on user needs to build useful solutions
Requirements
- 01Strong backend engineering skills in Kotlin, Java, or another object-oriented language, with solid instincts around testing and code quality
- 02Experience designing and building APIs and frameworks that other teams depend on - platform thinking, not just feature delivery
- 03Experience with GraphQL and REST API design
- 04Comfortable working on AI-native features and cross-team integrations - this work spans multiple systems and requires collaboration as much as execution
- 05The ability to take a complex business problem, understand what the user actually needs, and build something that solves it cleanly
- 06You use AI tooling as a genuine part of your workflow, not an afterthought
- 07You care about the people using what you build - not just whether it works, but whether it's useful
- 08Experience working with large datasets and query engines (OpenSearch or similar)
- 09Familiarity with data pipelines or event-driven architectures (Kafka, Pulsar, or similar)
- 10Frontend experience in React or TypeScript - enough to contribute across the stack when needed
- 11Understanding of API principals (REST/GraphQL) and integration with frontend applications
